Maoneng Group recently celebrated the launch of what will be Australia’s largest solar farm.
On Monday, May 23, Maoneng group officially launched the Sunraysia Solar Farm (sunraysiasolarfarm.com.au). The farm – which represents an estimated capital investment of $300 million in the Australian and local economy – is proposed to be located around 17km south of the Balranald town centre and around 140km south east of Mildura, within the Balranald Shire Council Local Government Area. The site is accessed from Yanga Way (also known as Mallee Highway and Tooleybuc-Balranald Road) located to the east.
The proposal includes the development of a utility scale solar photovoltaic farm and would have a total capacity of 200MWAC. Stage 1 of the proposal would be 109MWAC and stage 2 would be 91MWAC. The farm will fulfil Maoneng Group’s commitment to developing and delivering 1GW of solar facilities across Australia over the next six years.
“As we make the transition into a more sustainable environment, we embrace the challenges and opportunities of not only what lies in front of us, but also what’s foreseeably ahead of us – and that is change,” said Maoeng Group Vice-President Qiao Han. “To this end, Sunraysia Solar Farm will grow to become one of Australia’s largest solar farms supplying power to critical parts of the National Electricity Grid and strategically positioned to becoming an icon of trust, health and wealth.”
The solar farm would provide benefits including the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions required to meet Australia’s energy demands; assisting the transition towards cleaner electricity generation and would also directly contribute to meeting the RET.
